What I letting you know today – I had just flipped on the end of the Colorado and Cubs game in the bottom f the ninth, tied at 5-5, when the Rockies TV announcer said Carlos Gonzalez needs a home run to hit for the cycle and wouldn’t that be a welcome sight at this point of the game. The first pitch of the half inning Gonzalez swings and hits a walk off home run and becomes the six Colorado player to hit for the cycle. ''I heard everyone saying I was going to do it,'' Gonzalez said. ''You just believe in yourself. I guess it was meant to be. It was my night, it was the Rockies' night.''

What I thought today – With no disrespect to the former Dukie, but when J.J. Redick is your best player on the floor in the NBA conference finals, your chances of losing go up significantly. What I saw last night – A mentally unprepared Tulsa team was easily 10 points better than UTEP, however they played hard from the start of the third quarter until they built 24-13 and decided they was good enough and got beat deservedly by opponent who wanted it more. Columbus Day Stuff

What I thought yesterday- While it’s easy to pick on the Denver Broncos uniforms, I wonder who pays for those uniforms and how much they cost? Yet these NFL teams would never think about lowering ticket prices. If I owned a NFL team and I had a game that was going to be blacked out in my town, I would have an online lottery signup for remaining tickets, charging $10.00 per entry. The winners get to go to the game for just ten bucks, but the place is full, plus the team and stadium receives all the parking and concession revenue. Those that did not win print their online receipt and can use it at the team’s gift shop (online or in person) or take it to local bars you’ve made deals with and get $10.00 off the price of food or drink and can watch the game there.

What I learned today – Do you get the feeling that Derek Jeter couldn't wait for the postseason to start? The Yankees icon went 2-for-2 with a home run, two RBI, three runs scored and two walks in New York's 7-2 win over the Twins in Game One of the Division Series.
Only two other players in Yankees postseason history have had a game in which they had at least four plate appearances, reaching base safely in each; scored at least three runs; had at least two RBIs; and hit a home run. Two pretty famous players in two pretty famous games.

In Game Four of the 1926 World Series at St. Louis, Babe Ruth became the first player to hit three home runs in a World Series game, doing so in only three at-bats, with two walks, four runs scored and four RBIs. Clocked in with a nice 3-1 record on Tuesday. I don’t follow a ton of NHL and am more skeptical about those systems I lack knowledge of. Nonetheless, it was the best on the board and gave it a shot. Speaking of taking a shot, we have another perfect angle going today, this time on the base paths. A lot of focus on side action in baseball, but one consensus stood out for our Free Play. Nice Mix for a Tuesday

We ended up 2-2 for our NFL plays and forge ahead towards another week, with a nice variety of sports forthcoming. On the football side we have a Top Trend that has never lost. We have strong consensus who wins Game 163 tonight in baseball. The Best System around is in the NHL and you have to consider it even so early in the season at 86.2 percent. Good Luck

What I learned yesterday – Brett Favre can still dial it up when completely focused. Though receiving strong criticism on blogs and forums, how could John Gruden and Jaws not be impressed with Favre’s performance? Whether he’s capable of doing this in December or January is another discussion. As many things as Aaron Rodgers seemingly does right, he has to start getting rid of the ball. Any top level quarterback is not going to be sacked eight times, period. It’s great to want a be a hero and make plays down the field, but you only hurt yourself and your team by being somewhat oblivious to offensive line deficiencies. The Packers are 2-2 and the game plans of the Packers coaching staff has helped make this a .500 team to date.

What I learned yesterday – Though I don’t think much of handicapper Jim Feist, I’ve always admired his ability as promoter and ability to make money. On his Pro-Line show, there has been this woman the last few years named Roz Juarbe, who introduces segments. She SUPPOSEDLY is/was a handicapper, but only a buffoon would have believed that. I just found out Feist is actually married to her. Good for him, with the money talking.

What I thought yesterday – All this talk about the USC quarterbacks is making my ear drums hurt. Let’s start with the facts, Aaron Corp was the better player in camps and won the job until he got hurt. Though he didn’t play well against Washington, he’s played one college game. Matt Barkley was elevated to starter because Corp got hurt and was OK against Ohio State and very sharp under pressure as quarterback in game winning drive against the Buckeyes. He’s play two CFB games.

These are young quarterbacks, they need help. Where was the offensive line in Seattle stepping up like they did against Ohio State? Where was the defense when they couldn’t stop Jake Locker when he led Huskies to winning field goal? Don’t blame the quarterback, USC lost as a team and if they expect to win the Pac-10, they will have to do so as a team.

When Corp was going thru rough periods, didn’t you wonder how little USC coaches think of Mitch Mustain not to even entertain putting him in? Just think if Mustain had stayed at Arkansas, he be the starting quarterback in pass-friendly Bobby Petrino offense.

What I saw yesterday- High entertainment value in Miami and Florida State last night, with two offenses that appear they could be potent most of the season. Along those same lines, both defenses lacked ability to cover receivers, develop consistent pressure on the opposing quarterback and too many run lanes were available in defensive lines which were masked with swift linebackers making tackles. I believe we’ll need to see both teams play a couple more games before a true read can be taken. On the glass is half full side, both looked much improved over last season at the same time.
